Basic Proofreading and Copyediting
MorningStar Editing provides basic proofreading and copyediting services for all clients. Basic proofreading includes checking for spelling mistakes, typos, punctuation, capitalization errors, and awkward grammar. If your work is already polished and only needs a quick read for minor errors, you’ll like MorningStar’s rates and fast turnaround.

Extended Proofreading/Line Editing
If your work needs a little more help than basic proofreading, you may want extended proofreading or line editing, which includes everything that comes with basic proofreading and copyediting plus checking the soundness of general structure and checking for clarity, sense, word choice, redundancies, and inconsistencies in narrative voice.

Substantive Editing/Rewriting
Your text may need a more aggressive edit or an extensive rewrite. MorningStar Editing’s Cassie Armstrong can provide that. She incorporates most suggestions directly into the text and highlights the revised material. For sections that need additional author input, she inserts comments and questions for you to consider.

Proofreading and Copyediting for Legal Professionals

MorningStar Editing offers proofreading and copyediting for legal professionals. Cassie is familiar with and comfortable using the BlueBook. 

Manuscript Evaluations
Manuscript evaluation entails providing you with a detailed written evaluation consisting of

• Comments on the content, including characterization, dialogue, setting, believability, and research
• Comments on writing technique, including technical ability and style
• Suggestions for steps to take to further develop the manuscript
• Responses to your particular questions
  

To use the manuscript evaluation service, please submit the following:

• Your manuscript, composed on a computer using double spacing, 12-point Times Roman, and 1-inch margins on white paper, with the copyright indicated on the cover page
• A list of 3 specific questions you would like the evaluator to address (optional)
• A brief (1- or 2-paragraph) synopsis of your manuscript
• Payment (see Rates page)
  

Hand-written submissions will not be accepted. To have your manuscript returned, include a self-addressed envelope with sufficient postage.

The evaluation process will take 5 to 8 weeks, depending on the length of the submission. Manuscript evaluation does not constitute editing, so your actual manuscript will be returned to you containing no additional editorial comments or corrections.
